Memo to those who truly believe that President Obama and President Obama alone is responsible for the rise in oil and gasoline prices:

inothernews:

  • Get out of your car
  • and empty the contents of your gas tank into a canister
  • and take that canister to the nearest refinery
  • and have them convert your gasoline into the petroleum it previously was
  • and have them transport said petroleum back to its point of origin
  • (if it came via pipeline, have the pipeline operator reverse flow and send it back that way;
  • if it came via cargo ship, have them place your petroleum into one of the tanks aboard and send that ship back)
  • and once at point of origin, have them transport your oil back to the well from which it was extracted
  • (if said well is beneath the ocean surface and under the sea floor, then please ensure the re-introduction of your petroleum to said well is done carefully so as not to upset the already endangered ocean environment — just ask the Gulf of Mexico, sigh!;
  • if said well is the oil sands region of Canada, ensure you mix said sand and other particulates well into the petrol for that nice, non-sweet crude viscosity;
  • if said well is in a region of the world that is currently under threat of governmental instability and / or war, then, um, make sure your oil crew is wearing bulletproof vests, we guess?  That’s up to you)
  • and oh yeah, beware of the ability of major natural disasters like the earthquake / tsunami that struck Japan to upend whatever domestic energy policies your and other countries may have and cause a ripple effect on oil prices worldwide
  • not to mention those pesky speculators trading in commodities like oil — those guys are greedy bastards who don’t actually USE the oil they buy and hoard!  But shhhhhhh, no one needs to know that
  • and then and only then should you feel free to blame any one individual on the face of the Earth for the rise in oil and gas prices, but make especially sure it’s the current President of the United States
  • okay, dumbass?

thegreatbeerquest:

BEER OF THE MONTH- FEBRUARY
Late winter is arguably one of the best times of the year for craft beer, especially big bold boozy brews that will knock you on your ass just in time to realize that it’s ten degrees outside, your not wearing a coat, and you’re just fine with that. But in a season of stouts, barleywines, and strong ales, it was an IPA that takes the crown. Hopslam is a double IPA that flirts with the entirely make believe “triple” label. Huge hop notes and a boozy rum finish of mango, pineapple, and grapefruit.
WINNER: Bells Hopslam
Second Place: De Molen Hel & Verdoemenis
Third Place: Central Waters Bourbon Barrel Barleywine

Athlete Aimee Mullins
“Born without fibulae in both legs, Aimee’s medical prognosis was discouraging; she was told she would never walk, and would likely spend the rest of her life using a wheelchair. In an attempt for an outside chance at independent mobility, doctors amputated both her legs below the knee on her first birthday. The decision paid off. By age two, she had learned to walk on prosthetic legs, and spent her childhood doing the usual athletic activities of her peers: swimming, biking, softball, soccer, and skiing, always alongside “able-bodies” kids.”

Detroit’s Hot Taco Officially Opened Yesterday
First new business opening of the year in Detroit? Ladies and gentlemen we have a winner! Yesterday Hot Taco Detroit got the doors open to a “gringo Baja California-style taco shack,” in the words of Eat It Detroit blogger Nicole Rupersburg. What the hell is that? We are not sure but with these temperatures we’ll take whatever pieces of Baja are offered. Downtown Detroit design loyalists may remember this storefront at the former site of Hugh (from September 2009 to April 2010 and then for a three weeks of December 2010). While that store will be reborn in the Auburn next year, it left some good design vibes behind for owner Sean Harrington to work with. Sean is also owner ofThe Town Pump and Centaur Bar and pretty much that whole block of Park Ave. behind the Fox Theater. He turned Hot Taco into a place with that “slick ground-floor-of-an-ultra-sleek-urban-loft-building feel to it,” (again EID’s words) including brushed metal countertops, a white ceramic tile back splash, red walls, floor-to-ceiling plate glass windows and exposed ductwork. Our verdict? Setting the bar high already in downtown Detroit and extra points for forcing us all to write things like “The Hot Taco is Open!,” for the high schooler in all of us.
